About A Streetcar Named Desire
This is a heartbreaking collision between fantasy and reality, telling the story of the ex Southern Belle, Blanche, as she struggles to cope with a turbulent journey where change, loss and frailty batter her, leaving her exhausted.
Blanche has a dark and dodgy past. When a series of personal disasters force her to move in with her estranged sister Stella, she’s also forced to deal with the cruel Stanley, Stella’s husband, a man who will stop at nothing to reveal Blanche’s truth. If he does, her fragile world could break into a million pieces.
This is widely regarded as one of the most important plays of the 1900s, and it has attracted countless awards since its debut in December 1947. A dazzling revival, it has attracted significant critical acclaim. The Guardian has called the three Olivier-nominated actors’ performances ‘bewitching’, the FT has called them ‘outstanding’, and the anticipation is mounting fast.
Peter Rice is the sound designer, Madeleine Girling has designed the sets, Merle Hensel is the costume designer and Lee Curran is the lighting designer. Julia Horen CDG is the casting director and Angus McRae is the composer.
