A View from The Bridge description
A View From The Bridge – Arthur Miller’s classic play
What happens when two people start to fall in love? It can be a catastrophe. Welcome to Lyndsay Posner’s fabulous new revival of A View From The Bridge, one of the 20th century’s best-loved and respected plays from the legendary Arthur Miller.
Starring Dominic West and Callum Scott Howells, the show transfers to the West End for spring 2024 after a sold out, month-long season in Bath. This extraordinary 1955 play reveals the destructive nature of obsessive love, on at the Theatre Royal Haymarket from May 23rd for a ten week season. The signs are all excellent, leading theatreland’s luminaries to tip this one off as a particularly thrilling revival.
What's the story behind A View From The Bridge?
Expect a star-studded cast. Dominic West is a BAFTA Award winner, respected for his amazing role in The Wire and for his current role in TV’s The Crown, the faux royal family drama. He plays Eddie.
The impressive Olivier and Tony Award nominee Kate Fleetwood, whose roles include Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, plays Eddie’s wife Beatrice, and the Welsh BAFTA Cymru Award winner Callum Scott Howells from It's A Sin plays Beatrice’s cousin Rodolpho. Nia Towle, who made a splash in Rocketman and Persuasion, and Martin Marquez of Les Misérables and The Crown, also star.
We also have a glittering creative team on board, all with great credentials. This hugely popular new production is directed by Olivier award-winning Lindsay Posner, whose version of The Old Vic's The Winslow Boy in 2013 ended up a legend in its own right.
Peter McKintosh, who worked on The Handmaiden's Tale, Cloud Nine, and Boston marriage, is the designer and Paul Pyant of The Winter's Tale and Arcadia is the lighting designer. Gregory Clarke of The Third Man and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? is the sound designer and Ed Lewis from A Day In The Death Of Joe Egg and The Best Man is the composer.
About A View From The Bridge
The play, by Arthur Miller, premiered on Broadway in 1955 and has seldom been off the stage and screen ever since. The action is set in 1950s New York, where the Italian-American dockworker Eddie welcomes two cousins from Sicily, Marco and Rodolpho, into his home. When Rodolpho and Eddie’s niece Catherine, with whom Eddie is in love, take a shine to each other, they unwittingly create a dramatic chain of events that changes everything.
