AIN’T TOO PROUD - The Life and Times of The Temptations
AIN'T TOO PROUD is an award-winning musical with sweet soul at its heart. It opens in the West End at the Prince Edward Theatre from 31st March 2023. If you loved The Jersey Boys, and adored The Drifters Girl, this’ll thrill you just as much. It won the 2019 Tony Award for Best Choreography, an electrifying musical following the journey of THE TEMPTATIONS from the mean streets of Detroit to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. All this and more makes Ain’t Too Proud theatre tickets extra special.
The show is packed with the group’s cool signature dance moves and unmistakable harmonies, embellished with their best-loved chart hits. And there are so many songs to love – The Temptations scored top ten hits with 42 of their tunes and 14 reached Number One. The plot shares how the band members met, how they found success, and the remarkable heights they hit. At the same time it explores the dark side, the personal and political battles that almost tore them apart.
If you adore nothing more than enjoying a great view of the stage while a wonderful story unfolds and the music soars, this one’s for you. Enjoy a star-studded bunch of Temptations tunes including the classics My Girl, Just My Imagination, and Papa Was a Rollin' Stone.
What's the story behind AIN’T TOO PROUD - The Life and Times of The Temptations?
Produced in the West End by Ira Pittelman, Tom Hulce, Stephen Gabriel and Jamie Wilson, this brilliant musical reveals the trials, tribulations, and highs of the Temptations’ dazzling soul music career.
As Otis Williams, the group's founding member and an executive producer of the show says, “I am truly thrilled that our Tony Award-winning musical Ain't Too Proud – The Life and Times of The Temptations, which was a smash hit on Broadway and is currently touring to 50 cities in the U.S, will be opening in the West End next Spring. The UK has always loved our music and embraces it as much today as it did 60 years ago. All of us involved with the show can't wait to share this very production with you all."
The Temptations are American Music Royalty. Their huge catalogue of hit songs and six-decade career has seen them ranked Number One in Billboard Magazine's recent list of Greatest R&B/Hip Hop Artists of All Time. They also scored high with Rolling Stone magazine as one of the publication’s 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.
It all began with My Girl, which came out in December 1964, their first Number One chart hit. It sold multi-millions of copies, was inducted into The Grammy Hall of Fame in 1998, and took a place in the USA National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress in 2018. Altogether the group has won more than fifty gold, platinum, and multi-platinum awards along with five Grammy Awards, including the Recording Academy's Lifetime Achievement Grammy. The list of accolades goes on and on. No wonder we predict theatre tickets for Ain’t Too Proud will sell like crazy.
