Aspects of Love – Back with a fresh new face
It’s back! We’re thrilled to announce the return of Andrew Lloyd-Webber’s classic musical Aspects of Love, which has been on and off the stage around the world since it first appeared in the West End back in 1989. Brought to fresh life with a re-imagined production to bring it bang up to date, it’s on at the West End’s Lyric Theatre from 12th May 2023. It’s good to know we’ll have a superb choice of Theatre tickets for Aspects of Love for you on site, supported by exceptional service.
What's the story behind Aspects of Love?
Andrew Lloyd Webber discovered this gorgeous story in 1979, when he and Tim Rice were asked whether they’d like to write songs for a film version of the 1955 book by David Garnett. The project never happened. A few years later, in 1983, a potential stage collaboration with Trevor Nunn came along and a few songs were written, but again the project didn’t come alive. Five years after that the musical finally came together, and it was produced for the first time in 1989, a West End hit directed by Trevor Nunn and choreographed by Gillian Lynne at the Price of Wales Theatre.
Since then Aspects of Love has never failed to please. It delighted Broadway in 1990. In 1991 the Edmonton chamber version proved popular, and a 2007 UK Tour delighted audiences and critics alike. 2010 saw a London revival followed by a 2012–2013 Dutch Tour. A 2018 appearance in Manchester was followed by a 2019 London Revival. Now it’s back, re-imagined and fresh for 2022.
About Aspects of Love
Aspects of Love tells the story of a group of friends and family who fall in love, drift apart, fall for other people, and return to each other over a number of years, from 1947 to 1964. It’s set in France, taking in Paris and Pau, and also Venice.
The young Englishman Alex Dillingham falls head over heels in love with the vibrant actress Rose Vibert. But Rose falls in love with Alex’s Uncle George. George and his mistress, Giulietta, have an on-and-off relationship that comes and goes. George and Rose’s teenage daughter Jenny loses her heart for the first time to her older cousin Alex. The result is a sweeping and ambitious journey into the follies of love, and it binds a powerful spell.
Aspects of Love features a suite of Lloyd Webber classics, including the beloved ‘Love Changes Everything’, and ‘Anything But Lonely’. A two-act musical with a total of 46 songs, 21 in Act 1 and 25 in Act 2, makes this an extravagant production, set with many tunes you’ll somehow know whether you’ve seen the show before or not. It’s that well-known.
