Our August chart reflects the Theatreland shows our customers loved most during July. It’s turning out to be a long, hot summer and holidaymakers are flocking to town to experience some genuinely amazing performances. Top Hat is closing soon, a must for musical fans and number one in our chart. And the spectacular Michael Grandage season continues to thrill audiences with excellent The Cripple of Inishmaan at number three. What else is in store? Here goes…
Top Hat was our show of the month in July, with ticket discounts up to 50%. And it’s closing soon, which also gave ticket sales a big boost last month. If you’d like to check out our review of Top Hat you can read it here: Top Hat review. Otherwise book now for glamour, excitement, rousing show tunes and choreography to die for!

Private Lives, last month’s number four, opened in late June to rave reviews. Oscar Wilde’s canny observations of human nature are always wickedly provocative. You’ll love to hate the unforgettable Elyot and Amanda, and you’ll adore their recklessness, carelessness and passion, the perfect foil for their wishy-washy new spouses Victor and Sybil.

The Cripple of Inishmaan is the current play in the Michael Grandage season. Last month’s number one, it opened on 8th June and closes at the end of August. The play’s sheer brilliance and quirky humour, plus the short time left to enjoy the show, made it a hugely popular contender last month. Expect more of the same this month – book tickets while you can.

Fences opened on 19th June with a huge press fanfare as Lenny Henry takes the stage in the leading role. Troy Maxson is an embittered bin man with unfulfilled dreams of baseball glory. Having battled racism and financial hardship all his life, his solution is to build a fence. But is he doing it to keep the world out, or keep his family in? You can read our review here.

Dirty Dancing comes straight in at number eleven, a glorious show with a heart-warming plot, adult themes and breath-taking choreography; elegant, beautiful to watch, and all performed to a score bursting with classic tunes of the time. Dirty Dancing just keeps on giving, and this is a show stopper. You’ll have the time of your life!

Wicked takes the stage at number twelve, last month’s number six and as popular as ever. Think The Wizard of Oz then… rewind. This is the tale of the witches from Oz, and the girlhood experiences that turned them into the women they were by the time Dorothy and Toto came to Oz. An absolute delight for teens and their folks.
