This month our top twelve theatreland chart is a real collection of classics, with some well-loved favourites entering the scene for the first time. It just goes to show how some productions just keep on giving! Whether you’re a lover of London’s legendary theatreland or you’ve never been to a West End stage show, there are some truly amazing performances on the cards for June. Here’s what our customers loved best in May.
Top Hat stays at number one for the second month running, packed every night with lovers of Irving Berlin’s famous sophistication, beautiful show tunes, stunning stage sets and breath-taking choreography. A worthy winner and one for your diary, an all-time stage classic that’s not to be missed.

The Evening Standard Award for Best Play, Passion Play opened on May 1st to rave reviews, starring the wonderful Zoe Wannamaker. Peter Nichols’ celebrated black comedy about love and infidelity looks like being a monster hit as a secret rendezvous with an old friend threatens to ruin a marriage, straight in at number two.

Last month’s number three, The Lion King holds its position as yet another generation of children fall head over heels with the characters that wowed the silver screen courtesy of the 1994 runaway hit of a Disney animation. As the school summer holidays approach, will this show hit the number one slot?

Opening in June, this is the third play in the Michael Grandage Season, all of which have enjoyed remarkable reviews and substantial success. Martin McDonagh's touching comic masterpiece stars Daniel Radcliffe as a young crippled lad desperate for his share of fame and fortune.

Down from number four in May, people are still flocking to enjoy one of the finest collections of rock music this side of the Atlantic, setting the stage on fire in an excess of rocket-fuelled rock glamour with plenty of laughs along the way. You have until October to catch this splendid feast of musical mastery.

Up from number nine last month, the movie version of Les Mis and its release on DVD mean the stage classic is enjoying yet another renaissance. Our customers adore it, and it looks like another 65 million of us will end up loving the spectacle – just give it another 28 years and we’ll see how things stand!

The Book of Mormon is fresh in at number seven, a hilarious tale of two earnest young Mormon missionaries sent to a small Ugandan town to spread the word of the Latter Day Saints. But the culture shock they experience knocks them for six and they end up in a dramatic showdown with a local warlord. Wickedly funny and wonderfully wry.

Did you enter our Wicked draw in May? If so, join the crowd! We sold so many Wicked tickets it has flown right into our chart at number eight, with its remarkable special effects, eye-popping costumes and sets. Up from last month’s number ten position, Jersey Boys continues to delight our customers as this critically acclaimed portrayal of the living legends Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons rocks the stage.
