It’s the end of a beautiful, hot summer in London’s theatreland, with countless top class shows to enjoy. But which performances have generated the biggest buzz over the holiday season? We’ve compiled this month’s top twelve London stage shows by analysing what our customers enjoyed most throughout August. Here’s what theatregoers have voted for with their feet, our top-selling 12 plays, musicals, dramas and comedies for September.

We Will Rock You was last month’s fourth most popular show, a real winner for fans of big hair, big music and a big-hearted storyline. With as much as 38% off ticket prices last month, flocks of theatre lovers took us up on the offer and pushed the show up the chart. That’s no surprise - Queen’s songs and Ben Elton’s quirky humour are a very hard act to follow.

The Lion King, number ten in our August chart, continued to delight youngsters and their parents over the summer holidays with our ‘no booking fee’ offer, roaring back up to number three for September. Six Tony awards, two Olivier awards and thousands of theatregoers can’t be wrong. Not to be missed!

The Cripple of Inishmaan, last month’s number three, closed at the end of August having amused, delighted and touched thousands of people and made an unforgettable impact. Funny, sad, poignant… we’re sad to say goodbye to a wonderful production that’s played a seminal role in the success of the marvellous Michael Grandage season.

Les Miserables steams into our chart at number five, supported by the popularity of the movie and still packing the house thirty years after it first opened in Paris. It’s revolutionary stuff brought to thrilling life on stage with a song list guaranteed to make your heart beat faster and a storyline to match.

Private Lives closes on 21st September, with no end of excellent reviews and praise for the always-remarkable work of the redoubtable, rebellious, eloquent and scandalously frank Oscar Wilde. Last month’s number two, you only have three weeks before the doors close on a well-loved play that’s as relevant today as it ever was.

The Bodyguard was number eight in our chart for August, and has moved up one place this month with the announcement that the songstress Beverley Knight will be playing the role of Rachel Marron from September. It looks like audiences will always adore The Bodyguard, with Knight set to bring new life and verve to a cracking love story.

A Doll's House took off like a rocket last month, helped by our flash sale. Straight in at number eight this month, the show opened on 8th August and runs until late October, giving you plenty of time to catch this spectacular stage masterpiece by Ibsen. Want to know more? Phantom of the Opera remains one of our most popular shows, returning to our chart time and time again. Our special August flash sale saw a flurry of activity that shot the show back into the chart at number nine, and we fully expect it to perform to perfection as Christmas approaches. A genuine West End classic, loved by literally millions of people.

Thriller – Live enters the chart at number ten for this month, a spectacular piece of work created to showcase the epic talent of Michael Jackson, one of the planet’s greatest ever musical prodigies, sadly missed. It’s two and a half hours of pure Jackson heaven, and audiences are still flocking to experience a show like no other. Blame it on the boogie!

Charlie and The Chocolate Factory was number seven in last month’s chart and has enjoyed a sublime summer season entertaining children of every age with its chocolaty tale of triumph against adversity courtesy of the wonderful Roald Dahl. There are some real beauties hovering on the edge of our chart this month, waiting in the wings for fame and glory. Will Wicked make a dramatic re-entry? Will Lenny Henry in Fences join the fold? What about A Midsummer Night’s Dream, the Shakespeare classic to die for, or Rock of Ages? We particularly like the look of Horrible Histories - Barmy Britain Part 2 and Jeeves and Wooster, so watch this space.
