Cirque du Soleil - Corteo description
Corteo is a circus spectacle like no other, perfect for people of every age. This majestic, awe-inspiring show has already been seen and loved by more than 10 million people and now it’s in London for a limited season that’s predicted to be a sell-out.
The troupe returns to the Royal Albert Hall once more, this time with a ‘joyous and jubilant’ production that blurs the border between reality and illusion. Walk this way for sheer circus magic as Cirque du Soleil celebrates four decades of breathtaking spectacle.
A show that has thrilled people on six continents
Cirque du Soleil was founded in 1984 by the Canadian street performers Guy Laliberté and Gilles Ste-Croix. Their work has attracted numerous awards including seven Emmys, three Drama Desk Awards and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
More than 180 million of us have experienced the magic so far, in more than 450 cities spread across six of the earth’s seven continents. The only places they haven’t conquered are the Arctic and Antarctica.
Originally staged in 2005, this dizzying feat of imagination blends classic circus skills with breathtaking stunts, extraordinary set design, vibrant costumes and a touching story everyone loves to create a powerful impact everywhere it goes.
A beautiful story told with love and humour
Corteo, which means ‘cortege’ in Italian, is a festive parade merging acting passion with the power and grace of the acrobat to tell a story you’ll fall in love with. Come along to meet the Clowness, Mauro the Dreamer, the Giant Clown, the Little Clown, Mr Loyal, the White Clown and a host more fascinating characters.
As you’d expect the story is woven with skill, precision, and bucket-loads of positivity. Mauro the beloved clown has died, but he isn’t dead. He’s somewhere between heaven and earth and he’s dreaming, watched over by angels. The carnival he sees in his mind’s eye is a joyous parade of party-goers celebrating his life.
Part of the show’s charm is its contrasts. Blending large and small, ridiculous and tragic, poetic and mischievous, imperfection and perfection, the beautiful story unfolds. The results are thrilling, Cirque du Soleil at its legendary best. By revealing the strength and fragility of the clown, his wisdom and kindness, the story highlights the humanity in every one of us.
