The Crown Jewels description
The Crown Jewels - Inspired by a real heist
Colonel Thomas Blood was an officer and self-styled colonel, best known for attempting to nick the Crown Jewels of England from the Tower of London way back in 1671. A 'noted bravo and desperado', Blood was also famous for trying to kidnap and kill his sworn enemy James Butler, the 1st Duke of Ormond. This crazy new caper of a comedy play is inspired by Blood's story.
What's the story behind The Crown Jewels?
Billed as the 'royal event of the year', the play is on at the West End's Garrick Theatre from 7 July 2023 to 16 September. A riotous new comedy based on the most amazing royal caper in the nation's history, the protagonist Colonel Blood is both charismatic and unpredictable. Can he steal the Crown Jewels in plain sight, even though his partners in crime are a gang of misfits and King Charles II is super-keen to avoid a royal scandal?
