Derren Brown: Miracle description
This show will leave you absolutely breathless with admiration as Darren Brown struts his magical – but definitively NOT magic - stuff.
First, a little about the man himself. Derren Brown is famous for his extraordinary TV specials and stage productions, a growing list including TV's Trick of the Mind and Trick or Treat. Since the first broadcast of Derren Brown: Mind Control in 2000, his 'mind reading' act has made him a household name.
If you're expecting 'real' magic, this is about as far from magic as it gets. Derren Brown does not deal in the paranormal. He isn't psychic. In fact he's a dedicated sceptic and his apparent mind-reading and other extraordinary skills are actually much more interesting than anything the paranormal could possibly deliver. Delving deep into the human condition, his work reveals how susceptible we humans are to all sorts of subtle and even not-so-subtle influences.
Brown uses a brilliant combination of suggestion, psychology, misdirection, body language, subliminal ideas and showmanship to astound audiences. And this latest show is billed as more mind-blowing and extraordinary than ever.
Miracle is directed by Andy Nyman and Andrew O’Connor and it's on stage between 11th November 2015 and 16th January 2016, the perfect seasonal show for Christmas and New Year. It's Brown's seventh show since 2003 and his second time at the Palace Theatre, the venue that launched Infamous to delighted audiences in 2013.
Set design is by Simon Higlett, lighting by Tim Mascall, sound by Colin Pink and video design by Simon Wainwright. And the show's being produced by Michael Vine, O’Connor and Brown himself, for Vaudeville Productions.
What's the new show about? The man himself calls it, “An extraordinary voyage” and his “boldest, most contentious show yet.” Apparently it'll be more philosophical in nature than previous offerings, focusing on ways of thinking that might make audience members happier. Intriguing or what?
Other than that, you'll have to wait and see – the suspense is part of the deal, part of the fun. All of which means you're in for an unforgettable treat, another extraordinary adventure into the remarkable nature of the human mind and the many ways in which it can be manipulated without us knowing a thing about it. Clever, clever stuff.
What do the press say about Derren Brown? The Daily Telegraph calls his work “Dazzling. Thought-provoking and captivating”. And The Times says “The brilliance of this master magician is no illusion”. How can you resist?
