Farewell Mister Haffmann description

An acclaimed English-language debut at Theatre Royal Bath preceded the London premiere of Farewell Mr Haffmann, one of France’s most successful new plays. Now it's transferring to Park Theatre, London to delight audiences. Lovers of serious theatre adore this tense, witty and complex drama.

Totally brilliant, born in France

The original French production, Adieu Monsieur Haffmann, was written by Jean-Philippe Daguerre, an instant hit that quickly attracted four Molière Awards including Best New Play. As one of the longest-running plays in France, it has also been adapted into a film starring Daniel Auteuil.

Blending dark humour and suspense, you can expect a gripping wartime drama set in Paris during 1942, when the city was occupied by the Nazis. In a plot revealing human resilience in the face of an impossible situation Joseph, the Jewish owner of a jewellery shop, and his employee Pierre make a desperate deal. Pierre will hide Joseph from the Germans in return for the deeds to his store plus a highly unusual request concerning Joseph's wife. The many powerful personal, political and moral dilemmas the trio faces make this play perfect for today.

The experts behind the drama

The show stars Michael Fox (The Fear of 13, Othello) as Pierre Vigneau, Nigel Harman (EastEnders, Shrek the Musical) as Otto Abetz, Jennifer Kirby (Untitled F*ck M*ss S**gon Play,The Massive Tragedy of Madame Bovary) as Isabelle Vigneau, Jemima Rooper (The Inheritance, As If) as Suzanne Abetz, and Alex Waldmann (Arms and the Man, Jews In Their Own Words) as Joseph Haffmann.

Joining director Oscar Toeman in the creative team are Designer Rebecca Brower, Lighting Designer Christopher Nairne, Sound Designer and Composer Asaf Zohar, Casting Director Amy Blair, Costume Supervisor Mark Jones and Movement and Intimacy Director Christina Fulcher. Written by Jean-Phillipe Daguerre and Adapted by Jeremy Sams, the play is Presented by Norel Productions and Adam Blanshay Productions in association with Park Theatre, London.
