Giant description

Roald Dahl was a great children's author whose magical work has delighted millions of grown-ups and kids for decades. On the dark side he offended a lot of people with his harmful views. Starring John Lithgow as the author, the play's sell-out premier sent it West End-wards. You're going to love Giant.

An acclaimed play with attitude

This highly acclaimed new drama comes from Mark Rosenblatt, his debut play. It premiered at the Royal Court Theatre with 3rd Rock From the Sun's John Lithgow as Roald Dahl, who reprises his role along with more original cast members. The West End transfer comes as no surprise, with a string of high-scoring reviews from critics. You'll love Lithgow as the famously waspish Dahl, a little bit of on-stage genius.

Giant the plot

Editing the story on the brink of publishing The Witches, Roald Dahl is embroiled in a scandal of epic proportions. A lifelong supporter of Palestine, he'd given a book condemning Israel's 1982 siege of West Beirut an impassioned rave review so antisemitic it rocked the nation.

The talent behind the sell-out

US actor and Golden Globe winner John Lithgow (Third Rock From The Sun, Killers of the Flower Moon, The Crown) reprises his acclaimed role as Dahl. Olivier Award-winning Elliot Levey (Cold War, Patriots, Good) returns as Tom Maschler, Rachael Stirling (The Divine Mrs S) as Felicity Crosland and Richard Hope (Hijack) as Wally Saunders.

Directed by Nicholas Hytner (Straight Line Crazy, La Belle Sauvage). Bob Crowley is the Designer, Anna Watson is the Lighting Designer, Alexandra Faye Braithwaite is the Sound Designer and Arthur Carrington is the Casting Director. Giant is produced in the West End by Brian and Dayna Lee, Stephanie Kramer and Nicole Kramer, Josh Fiedler, and Robyn Goodman.
