Inside No.9 description
Prepare for weird... Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith’s award-winning television comedy Inside No. 9 is coming to vibrant life on stage for a strictly limited season, with a brand new plot along with some familiar faces. In their world, ‘strange’ is the name of the game.
Unsettling fun from the peculiar pens of Pemberton and Shearsmith
Pemberton and Shearsmith have penned a fresh new production, and audiences are being warned to expect the unexpected. The show will weave its signature web of twisted tales and black humour on stage, taking us from the spooky to the absurd and back again in a blend of comedy, horror and drama that has kept TV audiences on the edge of their seats since 2014.
You’ll experience some of the TV show’s best-loved characters, along with new people, in a fresh new plot bringing the duo’s uniquely strange brand of storytelling to the West End for a strictly limited 12-week season. You’ll love the world of intrigue they create, directed to perfection by Simon Evans. And the story will keep you guessing right to the end.
The final No. 9 TV show gives way to theatrical delights
The news comes ahead of the ninth and final series of the hit TV show, aired on the BBC during May-June 2024. But Pemberton and Shearsmith have been mulling over a live theatre show for years, ever since number nine was born. It’s a perfect fit since every episode is basically a mini-play with a small cast set in just one location. You can clearly see how the pair was inspired by theatre when writing the TV series.
A collective audience behaves very differently to a solitary one. Shared enjoyment is a totally different animal, with a life of its own, and it’s infectious. You can expect some big comic moments, but there’s also extra spookiness and even more drama. Eccentric, surprising and unnerving, the idea was to deliver the perfect West End night at the theatre. We predict they’ll succeed!
With luck, this won’t be the only stage adaptation of what has become a telly classic. Pemberton and Shearsmith have created a new theatre company called IN9 Theatre Company, intending to stage more adaptations in future.
