London Road description
The time is autumn 2006. The place is Suffolk, and ordinary people’s lives are being ripped apart by a series of five brutal murders. This powerful verbatim musical tells the story in the words of the people who were there at the time, who lived through the tragedy.
When the man from 79 London Road is arrested, charged and convicted of the murders, the quiet community is caught in the spotlight, forced to struggle with what it feels like to be in the eye of a media storm, right at the heart of a terrible loss.
Verbatim theatre given creative musical treatment
Using people’s own words set to a voice-inspired score, London Road is a moving story about how we manage to survive extraordinary times. Director Rufus Norris (Small Island), writer Alecky Blythe (Our Generation) and composer Adam Cork have reunited to treat the West End to a production that has won and been nominated for several well-deserved awards.
Reunited creative team members
Director Rufus Norris directed the original 2011 production and directs this time around as well. There’s Set and Costume Design by Katrina Lindsay and Music Direction from David Shrubsole. The Movement Director is Javier De Frutos, the Sound Designer is Paul Arditti and the Orchestrations by Adam Cork. Original Casting comes from Wendy Spon and extra casting by Bryony Jarvis-Taylor.
