A story spanning generations

Roll back time to 1969, when Mrs Bains is balancing running a corner shop, caring for her poorly husband and trying to handle the demands of her two headstrong daughters, each of whom wants a very different future. Then roll time forwards to the present day, when a family tragedy brings Arjan Bains back from a London life he loves to a shop that personifies everything he was desperate to escape. Inspired by the critically acclaimed novel

Gurpreet Kaur Bhatti (A Kind of People) has adapted Sathnam Sanghera's critically acclaimed novel of the same name to create this sweeping family portrait directed by Iqbal Khan (East Is East). Lovers of Sanghera's novels (Empireland, The Boy With the Topknot, Empireworld) will adore this play just as much as newcomers.
