Much Ado About Nothing - National Youth Theatre description
Shakespeare's classic romantic comedy meets reality TV romance in a dazzling new adaptation by the poet and playwright Debris Stevenson, who delighted the critics with Poet in da Corner at the Royal Court Theatre.
Much Ado About Nothing is on stage at the magnificent Duke of York's Theatre and a fresh way of presenting the action delivers loads of 400-year-old laughs. This story is just as funny now as it ever was, which means our Much Ado About Nothing theatre tickets are going to be hot property.
What's the story behind Much Ado About Nothing?
Josie Daxter, a National Youth Theatre alumna, has worked extensively with The PappyShow and Complicite. She playfully directs this love story as we go behind the cameras into a loved-up world of gossip, matchmaking and manipulation. This is Shakespeare, but not as you know it. Some of Britain's best young talent will take the ancient story over and make it their own for this 10 year anniversary of the NYT REP Company production.
About Much Ado About Nothing
Leonato lives with his daughter Hero and niece Beatrice. Don Pedro turns up with his army of soldiers, including Claudio and Benedick. Claudio falls in love with Hero. Don Pedro helps arrange their wedding, but Benedick is baffled about Claudio's feelings and battles it out with Beatrice. Don Pedro's half-brother Don John tries to ruin the romance with gossip about the innocent Hero being unfaithful.
In the meantime Benedick's friends are sure he actually adores Beatrice. They, Hero and Leonato try to bring the pair together. Before the wedding, Don John sees his servant Borachio with Hero's maid, mistaking her for Hero. Claudio is furious. Hero faints. Her family claim she died. Eventually Beatrice and Benedick confess their love. Will Hero eventually be proved innocent? Will there be a wedding? Come along and see.
