Myra's Story description
Myra’s Story – A 90 minute Tour de Force
Starring the award-winning actor Fíonna Hewitt-Twamley, herself a Dubliner, Myra’s Story is set on the streets of the city of Dublin in Eire. A play widely described by many as devastating and heartfelt, if you’ve ever walked past a homeless person and wondered what brought them to living on the streets, this beautiful piece of compassionate theatre will resonate with you. And it’ll stay with you. Her story has a big heart, rich in humour, and it’s a delight.
Based on the Irish playwright Brian Foster’s successful play, Maire: A Woman of Derry, it proved a massive hit in Ireland and also scored high at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe three years running. Now it’s coming to the West End, a well-deserved accolade. Your venue is the Trafalgar Theatre, and it’s on stage on selected days from 19th September to 18th October 2023.
2021 saw the already award-winning Fíonna Hewitt-Twamley’s role in this play recognised via one of the most-desired awards offered by the Edinburgh Fringe. The Bobby Award is Broadway Baby’s top award for Outstanding Performance, won thanks to 21 sold-out performances at the infamous Palais de Varietie Spiegeltent in the Scottish capital’s George Square Gardens.
The West End run is predicted to be equally influential, taking to the stage to deliver an awesome acting masterclass and whisking audiences away on a memorable journey through every human emotion. The actor’s talent and versatility is showcased perfectly in this 90-minute tour de force, as are the talents of the playwright, and the director Michael Scott.
What's the story behind Myra’s Story?
Myra's Story comes from the pen of the Irish playwright Brian Foster, whose writing career began at age 39. Obviously a keen observer of human nature, Foster created the likeable, vulnerable character of Myra to represent the many street drinkers he was familiar with in his home town of Derry in Northern Ireland. He has also scored critically-acclaimed hits with his plays The Trophy Collector, The Most Haunted House in Derry, The Butterfly of Killybegs, A Miracle in Ballymore, Colm Cille, and Lillibulerro.

The actor cleverly portrays every role in her tall tales, acting out every funny, tragic, and heartbreaking life event. It’s amusing, touching, and opens a window into the lives of the people we all too often walk past as if they don’t exist.
