Stereophonic description
Stereophonic is already a bit of a legend. The London run is set to seal its reputation as an international phenomenon. If you love rock, get a kick out of seeing great musicians at work and like a really powerful story packed with feverish emotion and creativity, this one's for you.
Written by the visionary American playwright David Adjmi, the music comes from Will Butler from the indie rock band Arcade Fire. The show stars Andrew R. Butler as Charlie, Eli Gelb as Grover and Chris Stack as Simon.
The plot? Set between 1976 and '77, we follow a fictional rock band on the edge of superstardom as they battle their way through recording their new album. Will they make it or will they split up?
A star-studded cast of exceptional musicians
Eli Gelb makes his London stage debut, reprising an acclaimed performance on Broadway where he won a Tony nomination for Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Play plus the Drama League Distinguished Performance Award. Chris Stack also makes his London stage debut, reprising his Broadway role. Andrew R. Butler is playing his London stage debut too, reprising his Broadway role. Together they offer a blend of seriously impressive stage, screen and TV credentials as well as being skilled musicians in their own right.
The story behind the magic
The production has already made history by achieving the most Tony Award nominations, 13 in total, breaking the previous record held by Jeremy O. Harris's Slave Play in 2020 which had 12 Tony nominations. It won five Tonys for Best Play, Best Direction of a Play, Best Featured Actor in a Play, Best Sound Design of a Play, and Best Scenic Design of a Play. It has also been awarded the Drama Desk Award, Drama League Award, Outer Critics Circle Award, and New York Drama Critics' Circle Award for Best Play for 2023/2024.

The Scenic Designer is David Zinn, the Costume Designer is Enver Chakartash and the Lighting Designer is Jiyoun Chang. Sound design comes from Ryan Rumery and the Music Director is Justin Craig. The Orchestrations are by Will Butler and Justin Craig, with Hair and wig design by Robert Pickens and Katie Gell, and UK Casting by Julia Horan CDG.
