The Best Man description
In a strictly limited season, Martin Shaw leads a star-studded cast in The Best Man at the Playhouse Theatre from 24 Feburary – 12 May 2018.
In another poignant production for today’s political climate, The Best Man sees two presidential party candidates neck and neck attempting to gain the ultimate accolade for their party – the presidential nomination. The only thing in their way is an endorsement from an ex-President. Directed by Simon Evans, the only question is how are far are they prepared to go to be The Best Man?
Bill Kenwright produces this show by Gore Vidal, which toured as a UK premiere last year, including a run with Martin Shaw at the Richmond Theatre. He joins the cast at the Playhouse Theatre alongside Jeff Fahey, Olivier Award winner Maureen Lipman, Jack Shepherd, Honeysuckle Weeks and Glynis Barber. The remainder of the case is yet to be announced.
The Best Man first played on Broadway in 1960 and received six Tony nominations. It was later adapted into a film and has been successfully revived in 2001 and 2012, with James Earl Jones taking the leading role in the latter production.
