What's the story behind The Great British Bake Off Musical?
The new musical has been five years in development. It’s been created in association with the producers of the remarkably successful TV show. WhatsOnStage described the show as "hilarious, deeply touching and an utterly joyous feast of fun” and The Times agreed, saying it “serves up a hearty sugar and spice recipe.”
As you’ll know if you adore the TV show, Bake Off is about so much more than baking. It’s about ordinary people placed under extraordinary circumstances. It’s about hidden talent, about how we’re all in the same boat, are all human, and all deserve love. You’ll follow the very human, very familiar trials and tribulations of a group of bakers as they enter the terrifying tent to put their baking skills to the test.
About The Great British Bake Off Musical
You’ll meet a policeman, a carer, a sixth form student, a retired dinner lady, an environmentalist vegan, an Italian fashionista, and more as they embark on the annual journey of friendship, love, and laughter. Everyone’s welcome in the Bake Off tent to enjoy a musical with a wide family appeal. This is your chance to experience a tasty slice of humour with a warm heart, stuffed with joy.
The action is complemented with sixteen brilliant tunes, all newly written. The Great British Bake Off Musical will be taken out of the proving drawer in the West End for a limited 12 week season from 25th February 2023 at the Noël Coward Theatre. If you love nothing more than some quality escapism embellished with loads of laughs, this one’s for you.
Who’s in the show and who’s the creative team? The cast so far includes John Owen-Jones, who plays the judge Phil Hollinghurst, based on TV show judge Paul Hollywood. Aharon Rayner, Charlotte Wakefield, Claire Moore, Damian Humbley, Jay Saighal, Michael Cahill and Scott Paige also star, and the rest of the cast is to be announced. The book, music and lyrics are all by Jake Brunger and Pippa Cleary. Rachel Kavanaugh directs. The choreography is by Georgina Lamb, with set, costume and cake designs by Alice Power. The lighting design comes from Ben Cracknell and sound design from Ben Harrison.

Everyone, regardless of age, must have their own ticket to enter the theatre. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by and sat next to a ticket holder who is at least 18 years old. Children under the age of 3 will not be admitted.
