The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical description

Have you read the books? If you adored the best-selling novel by Rick Riordan, The Lightning Thief, you’ll adore this. An adventure musical for people of every age, it features a cool rock music score by Rob Rokicki and a book by Be More Chill’s Joe Tracz. Expect epic!

An adventure musical like no other

The show is set in the present day, in 2024, starring the New York teenager Percy Jackson, who discovers he is descended from the Greek god of the ocean Poseidon. His discovery is just the start of a wild adventure through a gang of tricky problems, as Percy’s life takes a dramatic turn and he’s hurled into a world much bigger and more strange than he’d ever imagined.

Struggling to handle awesome powers he can’t control, and forced to face a destiny he didn’t ask for, Percy is menaced by a pantheon of horrid mythical monsters as he learns how to be heroic. The future of the world is in his hands as he and his mates embark on an edge-of-your-seat adventure like no other.

Ten years since its debut, the show is finally in the capital

The musical enjoyed its off-Broadway premiere in 2014, ahead of two US tours, then had a second off-Broadway run before it finally hit Broadway for a 16 week run in 2019.

People of every age love the books and the musical is proving just as popular, so it’s great to see it in London at The Other Palace. Paul Taylor-Mills, Artistic Director at the venue, is excited to present the show, which taps neatly into the venue’s support for new writing and rising creative talent. Lizzi Gee (Groundhog Day) directs and choreographs this UK premiere, with original rock music and lyrics by Rob Rokicki (Monstersongs).

David Gilbery who heads up the producers, Bill Kenwright Group, is by all accounts also delighted to bringing this extraordinary mythical experience for the first time. The book series captured the imagination of everyone who read it, including adults, and fans of musical theatre will love it too. This really is the perfect adventure for gods and mortals alike.
