The Prince of Egypt description
The Prince of Egypt – A musical to remember
Have you seen the 1998 DreamWorks animated film, The Prince of Egypt? Did you love it? If you have kids, have they seen it yet? If so they'll be clamouring for tickets – and so will you!
Announcing a brand new, dazzlingly good musical of the same name, a stage adaptation of the movie that has had the entire world of theatre talking. It premiered at TheatreWorks Silicon Valley, and won the 2019 Regional Theatre Tony Award. It also proved a smash hit at the Fredericia Teater Denmark. Now it's our turn, the West End's turn to host this epic new musical, which will run during 2020 for just 32 weeks.
DreamWorks has an incredible reputation. They've entertained tens of millions of people of every age with their big screen magic, and now DreamWorks Theatricals has dreamed up a new treat for us. While the original movie celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2018, the story is as fresh as ever... as are the show tunes.
DreamWorks Theatricals, a part of Universal Theatrical Group, has collaborated with Michael McCabe and Neil Laidlaw to create this splendid experience. Music and lyrics come from the brilliant Stephen Schwartz, who wrote for the global stage musical hit Wicked, seen by almost ten million people in London and sixty million worldwide.
Philip LaZebnik, whose involvement with Mulan and Pocahontas has also delighted millions, wrote the book. It's directed by Scott Schwartz, who scored high with his excellent work on The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and the choreography comes from Sean Cheesman whose talents helped to bring the smash hit US TV talent show So You Think You Can Dance to vibrant life.
The musical includes ten brand new songs by Scott Schwartz, a huge treat for anyone who loves great show tunes, and you won't have to miss out on the original songs you loved so much in the film – five of the best are still there for you, good old friends, including the the Academy Award winning tune, 'When You Believe'.
What's the story? You'll join two very different young men on their travels through Ancient Egypt, Moses and his adopted brother Rameses. Raised as brothers in a wealthy household, one is due to rule their world, the other is destined to rise up and free the Egyptian people from tyranny. Things are about to change forever...
The movie, The Prince of Egypt, was praised widely by the critics and remains one of the most popular DreamWorks films. This fab stage adaptation is predicted to be just as good. Don't miss it.
