An award winning book turned into a gorgeous play

Welcome to the stage production of the award-winning kids picture book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, brought to you by the same team who gave us The Gruffalo and The Snail and the Whale. The winner of the prestigious British Book Award 2020 – Children’s Book of the Year (Illustrated and Non-fiction), it stuck at the number one spot through 2019 and 2020 as the nation's best selling picture book.

So what's the plot?

The Smeds and The Smoos tells the story of two groups of aliens living on one faraway planet. The Smeds are red and the Smoos are blue, and they don't trust each other one bit, telling their children not to talk to each other or play together. When a young Smed and a young Smoo fall in love they run away together, zooming away into space.

Interplanetary adventures, giggles, joy, jam and jumping are yours as you soar into space with this beautiful alien love story. Will their families stop being so silly, make friends and bring their runaway children back home? Will peace be restored? And will love conquer all?

This sweetly happy love story is directed by Tall Stories’ co-founder Toby Mitchell, the cast includes Felicia Akin-Tayo, Tom Capper, Robert Penny, Andrea Sadler and understudy Grace Liston. The movement direction is by Morag Cross, set and costume design by Barney George, lighting design by Peter Harrison, and music and lyrics by Jon Fiber and Andy Shaw.
