The Tempest description

Take one Shakespeare play. Add director Jamie Lloyd (Sunset Boulevard, Romeo & Juliet) then stir in some of the most respected actors of stage, TV and screen. This is The Jamie Lloyd Company’s The Tempest, on stage at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane.

At the top of the tree, playing Prospero himself, is the brilliant Hollywood star Signourney Weaver, who gave us thrills and chills in movies like Alien, Avatar, Gorillas In The Mist and The Ice Storm. She’s joined by Jude Akuwudike (Kyoto, A Mirror) as Alonso, Jason Barnett (The Seagull, Hot Wing King) as Stephano, Selina Cadell (A Monster Calls, The Dresser) as Gonzalo, Mathew Horne (The Lover / The Collection, Gavin & Stacey) as Trinculo, and Mara Huf (The Effect, Childminder) as Miranda.

Forbes Masson (Farm Hall, The Crown) plays Caliban and Mason Alexander Park (Cabaret, Hedwig and the Angry Inch) plays Ariel. James Phoon from Harry Potter and the Cursed Child plays Ferdinand, Oliver Ryan (Richard III, The Red King) is Sebastian and Tim Steed (Breeders, Jack Absolute Flies Again) plays the role of Antonio.

The legendary Jamie Lloyd Company does it again

Jamie Lloyd, of course, directs the play, joined by a cracking creative team including Set and Costume Design by Soutra Gilmour and Lighting Design by Jon Clark, Sound Design and Co-Composer by Ben and Max Ringham and Co-Composing by Michael ‘Mikey J’ Asante. The Movement Director is Fabian Aloise and Jonathan Glew is both the Associate Director and Text Editor. The Casting Director is Stuart Burt CDG and the Musical Director Giles Deacon, along with Intimacy Coordinator Ingrid Mackinnon, Associate Costume Designer Anna Josephs, Props Supervisor Fahmida Bakht and Production Manager Lloyd Thomas.

A magical story of betrayal, love and forgiveness

The plot weaves a gorgeous tale of magic, betrayal, love and forgiveness, set on an island somewhere near Italy where Prospero, magician and previous Duke of Milan, and his lovely daughter Miranda, live with a sprite called Ariel and a strange wild person called Caliban. Prospero magics up a violent storm, a plot to murder the King of Naples arises, there’s a drunken scheme to kill Prospero and the romance between Miranda and the King’s son, Ferdinand, only complicates matters. Will everyone be forgiven or is this the end for them all?
