The Time Traveller's Wife description
The Time Traveller's Wife: The Musical is based on a 2003 best-selling novel by Audrey Niffenegger. The story captured the imagination of people on every continent as they battled to grasp the complexities of time travel's impact on a relationship. The strong bond between the couple is tested time and time again by Henrys time travelling exploits and the reactions of his wife, Clare. Can they hold onto one another when time itself keeps pulling them apart?
What's the story behind The Time Traveller's Wife?
The Time Traveller's Wife is the debut novel by the US writer Audrey Niffenegger. Henry has a genetic disorder that whisks him backwards and forward in time. His artist wife Clare does her best to handle Henry's constant absences. Actually a metaphor for failed relationships, the plot falls somewhere science fiction and romance, a powerful combination that works beautifully on stage set to music.
The book became a bestseller and has sold millions of copies. The writer's extraordinary perspective on time travel is fascinating, touching, and inspiring. The book won the Exclusive Books Boeke Prize and a British Book Award, then Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema bought the TV and movie rights, and the rest is history. The film came out in 2009, and a TV series premiered on HBO and HBO Max in spring 2022. Now it's on stage in theatreland, a musical adaptation that is by all accounts brilliant.
