Titanique description
Titanique has already taken New York by storm, a smash Off-Broadway hit that has extended several times since it premiered in 2022. It has also gathered a load of critical acclaim as well as multiple awards. Now it’s coming to the UK, and it is totally hilarious.
Theatre royalty at the helm of a multi-award winning show
Co-written by Tye Blue, Marla Mindelle, and Constantine Rousouli, Titanique dates back to 2017. And what a rollercoaster ride it has been. The jukebox musical premiered off-Broadway in June 2022 at Asylum Theater, starring Mindelle and Rousouli as Celine Dion and Jack Dawson. It extended several times and sold out every time. Then it moved to the Daryl Roth Theatre where it won three 2023 Lucille Lortel Awards: Outstanding Musical, Lead Performer for Marla Mindelle, and Costume Design for Alejo Vietti.
Titanique also went on to win the Off-Broadway Alliance Award for Best New Musical, Las Culturistas’ Culture Award for Best Indoor Performance, and two Dorian Awards. And in 2024 Marla Mindelle won an Obie for Distinguished Performance.
What’s the plot behind Titanique?
Are you ready for something hilarious, colourful and huge fun? This is what you get when the songs of Celine Dion meet the blockbuster movie Titanic. What was originally one of the most beautiful love stories in the world has been transformed into Off Broadway’s most award-winning splash hit, a hysterically funny musical masterpiece.
Celine Dion re-charts the course of the movie’s best-loved moments and characters via her iconic songs, beautifully sung by big, rich voices making show-stopping performances every step of the way. My Heart Will Go On, All by Myself, To Love you More and others are sung to a full live band on stage to create a unique theatrical voyage. This is the ultimate in camp.
The producers are Eva Price (Oklahoma!, & Juliet, Dear Evan Hansen) and Michael Harrison (The Wizard of Oz, Hello, Dolly!, Crazy for You . The director is Tye Blue (RuPaul’s Drag Race) and the choreography is from Ellenore Scott (Funny Girl, Little Shop of Horrors), with music supervision, arrangements, and orchestrations by IRNE Award-winner Nicholas James Connell.
